For the next few weeks, we’re going to share some fascinating podcasts by our amazing alumni. Join us to hear some of the most entertaining content on the web!
First up is Warren Frey (’93 BA, History), a writer based in Vancouver, who co-hosts a prolific and irreverent Doctor Who blog called Radio Free Skaro, alongside Steven Schapansky and Chris Burgess, both from Edmonton. (“Skaro” is a nod to a fictional planet featured in the popular TV series.)
Frey, who founded the weekly podcast with Schapansky 10 years ago, shares why they decided to start the now-epic podcast: “Steven and I spent many hours in Teletoon’s control rooms discussing Doctor Who endlessly, often to the irritation of our colleagues. I figured if we could spend an several shifts per week talking about the show, we could certainly do so for an hour a week.”
Almost every Sunday, the hosts of Radio Free Skaro share their views on the Doctor Who news and events from the previous week, punctuated with fan commentaries, interviews with Doctor Who experts, and profiles of the show’s writers, directors and composers.
Radio Free Skaro is the official podcast of Gallifrey One, the world’s largest and longest-running fan-run Doctor Who convention. It’s been recommended by Doctor Who Magazine and voted most popular Doctor Who podcast by members of Gallifrey Base.
Listen to the last two-part podcast, commenting on the last two episodes of the season, both featuring director Rachel Talalay.
